Timbren suspension kits are of great benefit to trucks and other large vehicles that carry heavy loads. The installation of a Timbren kit is a simple process that involves no maintenance. Timbren bump stops are made of rubber and are designed to work as load boosters between the axle and the under-frame of a vehicle.
Without Timbren, overloads are bound to be problematic for a vehicle. With Timbren load boosters in place, a vehicle is better equipped to handle heavy loads because the rubber suspension springs prevent the chassis from bumping the axle. Essentially, Timbren springs optimize a vehicle's payload capacity.
Timbren Suspension
Have you experienced sagging problems with the rear of your truck each time you've towed a heavy load, such as a boat or a trailer? Alternately, has the front of your plow truck slouched each time you've attached a snow plow to the front of the vehicle?
With a Timbren suspension enhancement system installed at the rear of your truck or under the front end of your plow vehicle, the slouching issues will cease and you'll be able to maximize the payload capacity of the vehicle. Timbren suspension kits are available for a vast range of vehicle types, makes and models.
Timbren load boosters are designed to activate when your vehicle needs the support of the rubber overload bumpers. Basically, when the vehicle bears a heavy load, the rubber Timbren bump stops will prevent the chassis from weighing down on the axle that would otherwise be impacted by such heavy weight, whether it's at the front or the rear of the vehicle.
At times of operation when the vehicle is neither towing heavy loads or facilitating large machinery, the vehicle will operate as normal. A Timbren suspension enhancement system only works when needed, and doesn't otherwise affect the performance of a vehicle.
Timbren suspension kits are made to replace a vehicle's OEM suspension bump stop and offer superior overload endurance. Once installed, Timbren springs enhance the vehicle's suspension system by eliminating sag at whichever end carries the heavy weight. This, in turn, allows for smoother, more comfortable rides for both you and your passengers.
Mounted between the front or rear axle and the chassis of a truck, Timbren bump stops protect the axles and the leaf springs from the impact of excess weight. This way, the parts that comprise the suspension system endure far less wear and tear, which amounts to a longer life for the vehicle, with fewer instances of maintenance. Furthermore, Timbren load boosters are airless and therefore don't require extra parts in order for the enhanced suspension to operate while a vehicle is in motion.
The Benefits of a Timbren Suspension Enhancement System
Once you get Timbren rubber overload bumpers installed under your vehicle, the problems typically associated with heavy loads are no longer part of the driving experience. Regardless of the capacity in which you operate the vehicle - landscape work, leisure - the following benefits come with installing a Timbren kit to your truck:
- Eliminates front-end or rear sag and boosts the overall stability of a vehicle.
- Requires no air line and is generally maintenance free.
- Requires no special automotive skills to install under a vehicle.
- Doesn't necessitate a dismantling of the pre-existing suspension. Utilizes the same chassis holes.
- Makes rides more comfortable for everyone on board.
- Spares underside vehicle parts from the impact of load weights and reduces wear and tear.
- Each Timbren kit contains all the parts needed, along with easy instructions, for a full installation.
- Timbren suspension kits have been used in trucks and vans for more than four decades, and have therefore stood the test of time.
- Timbren kits are trusted and used by state and county highway departments across the United States.
Timbren springs improve the ride flow of an unloaded vehicle and protect the vehicle against overload weight, underside damage, road shock and the possibility of bottoming out.
Timbren Suspension Kits Fix a Range of Problems
These issues may be addressed or reduced with a Timbren suspension kit:
- Suspension sag. Whether a load is carried by the front or back of a vehicle, the added weight will cause most trucks to sag at the end that bears the weight. With the addition of Timbren rubber overload springs to the underside of a vehicle, the front and back suspension systems are spared various forms or wear, because road shock and the threat of bump-inflicted bottoming out are eliminated.
- Body roll. If your truck has a tendency to tilt along curves on the road, the addition of a Timbren kit can straighten out the distribution of weight between the four tires. With the improved levelness of the vehicle, the steering becomes a whole lot smoother, and wear on the brakes and tires is significantly reduced.
- Rough ride. In a vehicle where the suspension system is limited to the OEM parts, you're liable to feel all the bumps along the pavement of whichever roads you take on a given day's drive. With the installation of Timbren bump stops under your vehicle, the shock of these bumps will be absorbed by the rubber suspension springs, and this will allow for a more comfortable ride for you and your passengers.
- Trailer sway. In order to tow something as large as a trailer, it takes confidence on your part as a driver. It's hard to feel confident, however, when there's a constant feeling the trailer is swaying left and right at the tail of your truck. With a Timbren suspension enhancement system, your truck will have the power to tow a trailer with greater firmness. The increased roll stability will eliminate the wallowing problems a truck might otherwise experience with a trailer in tow while passing larger vehicles on the highway.
General Uses of Timbren Kits
A variety of Timbren suspension kits exist on the market to serve a range of vehicle owners and operators. Whether you're an individual who tows trailers and boats from the back of your truck or a landscaper who attaches plowing extensions to the front of your vehicle, Timbren rubber suspension springs can be applied to the vast majority of trucks both new and old.
Timbrens for Snow Plows
The suspension enhancement system of a Timbren kit makes it possible for a vehicle to endure the toughest of stress when battling snow and ice, regardless of whether the vehicle is small or large. Granted, a snow plow can induce untold levels of load stress onto a vehicle. The stress is due to the weight of the plow itself, as well as from the weight of the salt spreader, which operates with a high-gravity center that can cause a truck to sway.
If you attach a snow plow to your pickup during wintertime to plow away at snow and ice along your driveway, Timbren bump stops will prevent the front end of your vehicle from weighing down on the axle. Likewise, if you drive a wing blade-equipped, class 8 truck across highways to plow away at thick inches of snow, Timbren - enhanced vehicle suspension will render the job smoother, safer and more efficient. Timbren kits are spec'd on the majority of plowing transport vehicles that operate at state and county levels across the U.S.
Timbrens for Towing Trailers
When a truck is used to tow boats and trailers, the stress imposed by the weight of such structures can be incredibly taxing on the suspension system of the vehicle. Even with large highway trucks and RVs, the thousands of pounds a trailer inevitably adds to a given route can be strenuous as long as the vehicle's suspension is limited to OEM parts.
With Timbren rubber overload bumpers, the underside of the towing vehicle is relieved of the weight stress typically associated with long and heavy hauls. Throughout a towing ride, the rubber bump stops activate to protect the axle and leaf springs from the weight of the chassis whenever the vehicle starts to slump along the rear.
Timbrens for Recreational Towing
When the owner of a truck tows heavy loads along challenging terrain, there could be times along a given route where doubt kicks in as to whether they'll make it over the next hill or up some steep incline. With the installation of a Timbren suspension system into the vehicle of choice, such fears are permanently put to rest.
Thanks to rubber, Timbren bump stops that will absorb any stress the towing weight would otherwise inflict on a vehicle, challenging routes with sharp turns and inclines can be navigated smoothly and confidently with a complete lack of rear slumping or load sway. For drivers of everything from pickups and vans to class A, B and C vehicles, Timbren kits eliminate the risk factors drivers might otherwise cope with during heavy tows.
Timbrens for Landscaping and Leveling
Companies in the industrial sector have used Timbren suspension kits since the very inception of the technology. For the machines used by wrecking companies to bring down buildings, Timbren springs provide balance in the vehicles that makes it possible to hoist heavy cranes high above ground.
Regardless of the weight of the attached instrument, a Timbren suspension system will keep the front axle in its rightful position, even as the front end of the vehicle raises heavy instruments into the air. Operators of such equipment never have to worry about the front of a vehicle going nose-up or nose-down with Timbren vehicle suspension.
Timbrens for Emergency Vehicles
If there's one type of vehicle that can never afford to have the slightest imbalance as it makes sharp turns, changes lanes and passes cars and trucks, it's the emergency vehicle. Whether it's an ambulance or fire truck, an emergency vehicle needs to get to the scene it's been called to - and in the case of the ambulance, back to the hospital - as quickly as possible without the slightest amount of tilting or sway.
In many cases, the demands placed on recreational trucks pale in comparison to those placed on emergency vehicles. With the enhancement of a Timbren suspension system, an emergency vehicle can ride safely at any speed or load and provide utmost comfort and security to those involved.
Timbrens for Agriculture
As with snow plows and wrecking vehicles, the vehicles used in agriculture carry heavy frontal loads. Without Timbren, overloads can be troublesome for the vehicles out in the hay field, whether the purpose is to rake up hay or prepare the soil. With Timbren load boosters in place, agricultural vehicles are able to maintain their proper ride height, regardless of the weight of the load and regardless of how high or low a tool extends itself from the front of the vehicle.
Timbren Bump Stops vs. Air Bags
What are the merits of Timbrens compared to air bags? Let's take a look:
- Timbrens. With the installation of a Timbren SES kit, a rubber overload bumper replaces the OEM stock jounce bumper that comes pre-installed in most trucks. When the vehicle is unloaded, Timbren bump stops extend an inch and a half above the axle. This preserves the basic integrity of the vehicle's unloaded ride.
When loads are placed upon the vehicle, the rubber overload bumper touches the axle, whereupon the Timbren expands and contracts to bear the weight of the vehicle. Throughout a loaded ride, the Timbren enhances payload capacity and vehicle stability while boosting comfort levels for drivers and passengers.
- Air bags. In a vehicle that uses leaf springs, an air bag can be installed on the axle to absorb overload weight from the chassis. On coil sprung vehicles, an air bag can be installed within the coil. An air bag will activate on an as needed basis to offer the vehicle up to 5,000 pounds of leveling capacity.
In order for the bag to do its job properly, a pressure level of 5psi must be maintained during times of usage. When activated, the air bag helps to maintain a vehicle's horizontal riding position in times of load stress, while also helping to reduce sway and boost comfort for drivers and passengers.
Timbrens and Air Bags - Differences and Similarities
The functions of a Timbren bump stop are pretty straightforward, as it works by itself and requires no activation or maintenance from the driver. When installed under a vehicle, a Timbren requires no air and loads automatically. Furthermore, Timbrens make no contact during rides when the vehicle is unloaded.
Air bags, by contrast, require more hands-on involvement on the part of the vehicle owner. Air can be added when the vehicle is unloaded, and this allows the driver to adjust the bag to his or her own preferences. Nonetheless, the bag must be kept at a level of 5psi at all times.
Basically, the differences between Timbrens and air bags can be broken down as follows:
- Timbrens - No air or maintenance required, adjusts automatically.
- Air bags - Requires air, needs 5psi, adjustable to driver preferences.
Timbren bump stops and air bags also have a number of things in common. First and foremost, both maximize a truck's load leveling capacity and reduce sway, road shock and weight-inflicted slouching of the front or back end of the vehicle. Additionally, both are easy to install, and neither affect the riding quality of unloaded trips.
When it comes to the choice between a Timbren suspension system and an air bag, people often inquire as to which is better. The fact is, both are of equal benefit to trucks with heavy loads in tow. If you're looking for air adjustment options and prefer to take a more hands-on approach with your suspension system, the air bag could very well be for you. If, on the other hand, you'd prefer to have suspension enhancement that works automatically and requires no air or maintenance, a Timbren kit would likely be the better choice.
Timbren Kits for Medium and Heavy Duty Applications
If your pickup or SUV sways with heavy loads in tow, a Timbren suspension enhancement system could be the ideal solution. When fitted between the axle and under-frame of a truck, a Timbren enhances the pre existing suspension system with maximum overload protection. With kits that can be applied to most makes and models both new and old, Timbren bump stops have been used for many years among owners of trucks by:
For on- and off-road traveling, problems with trailer suspension can be remedied with the installation of an axle-less Timbren suspension kit. Built to fit a full range of frame widths, an axle-less Timbren suspension system can be selected at several different weight capacities, from 400 to 5,200 pounds. Axle-less trailer kits work with off-road as well as highway tires and provide a smooth, quiet ride, regardless of whether a trailer is loaded.
How to Install a Timbren Suspension Kit
If rides in your truck have been a cause of discomfort due to sagging, the problem can be solved with a simple installation of a Timbren rubber bump stop kit. With the Timbren's ability to absorb road shock and adjust automatically, the hassles involved with riding can become a thing of the past. The installation process can be completed within a couple hours, and it doesn't take much mechanical skill to achieve. The process can be broken down into the following steps:
- Brace the tires to prevent the truck from rolling at any point when the installation is in progress.
- Elevate the vehicle at the end of the chosen axle with a jack. For better access of the underside area, you may opt to remove the elevated wheels.
- Unfasten and take out the jounce bumper. The newly freed holes will be used for the Timbren kit.
- Prepare the Timbren kit - insert the bolt through the washer and up into the Timbren spring, and connect the brackets to the bump stop.
- Install the Timbren SES in the spot of the removed jounce bumper. For an easier fit, lubricate the empty holes with soap. The placement of a wood block below the bump stop can bring the suspension down just enough to press the Timbren into its place.
- Secure all the fasteners, reattach the tire and repeat these steps on the other side of the vehicle.
Once you've completed your installation of the Timbren kit, bring the vehicle down, remove the jack and unbrace the tires. From here, the vehicle is ready to load. You'll now get to experience what it's like to drive a truck with optimal suspension.

However, problems like these are liable to persist for as long as you rely on the vehicle's OEM parts. The answer is to install a Timbren kit under your vehicle.
If you wish to improve the stability of your truck on grueling routes with heavy structures in tow, check out the inventory here at General Spring, where we offer Timbren kits that can totally transform your riding experience.
